Why Documentation Fails: The 6 Most Common Errors

These are the most frequent causes of border rejection for pets departing from Vietnam

Microchip After Rabies Vaccine

The microchip must be implanted before or on the same day as the rabies vaccination. If the vaccine is administered first, most countries consider the entire vaccination invalid

Early Blood Draw for RNATT

The blood sample must be collected at least 21–30 days post-vaccination, depending on the destination. Drawing blood earlier produces a result that is automatically rejected.

Expired Health Certificate

Most countries require the official health certificate to be issued within 10 days or less before departure. A certificate issued outside this window is void at the border.

Missing Country-Specific Annexes

Many countries require additional forms stamped with the health certificate. The UAE’s MOCCAE Annex is a well-known example: without this stamped annex, the pet is denied entry.

Waiting Period Miscalculation

Japan, Australia, the EU, and the UK enforce mandatory waiting periods of 90–180 days after a successful titer test. Miscounting by even one day results in denial at the border.

Wrong Airline or Boarding Refusal

Not all airlines accept live animals on every route, and some breed or seasonal embargoes not listed. Choosing the wrong carrier results in boarding refusal at the airport with no refund.

Strategic Compliance for High-Complexity Routes

Daisy Pet maintains in-depth regulatory knowledge for high-complexity destinations. Explore typical lead times and technical requirements for your pet’s journey.

FAQ

FAQs About Our Documentation Service

Can I handle the pet travel paperwork myself without an agent?+
Yes, all regulations are publicly available. However, each destination’s rules interact with Vietnam’s high-risk classification in very specific ways. The timeline is unforgiving—a single misstep in the order of vaccinations (like vaccinating before microchipping) can invalidate months of preparation and lead to border rejection. Learn why regulatory compliance requires more than just veterinary care.
How early should I start the documentation process?+
This depends entirely on your destination. For countries like the US or EU, you need 4–6 months. For strict biosecurity nations like Australia, Japan, or Taiwan, the process must begin 7–10 months prior to departure due to mandatory post-vaccination waiting periods. The earlier we start, the safer your timeline.
Does this service guarantee my pet will be accepted by the airline?+
No service can provide a 100% guarantee. Even if every document is perfect, the Captain (Pilot in Command) has the final legal authority to refuse a pet if weather conditions, technical issues, or safety protocols are not met. This final check is a critical safety measure to ensure the absolute welfare of your pet during flight. Read about the real reasons for airline boarding refusal.
I already have a veterinarian. Do I still need this service?+
A veterinarian’s primary expertise is animal health and medical examinations. However, international pet travel is a multi-disciplinary process involving airlines, laboratory logistics, and government agencies. We strongly recommend carefully assessing a veterinarian’s actual experience in handling complex cross-border issues before making a decision. Understand the difference between clinical care and regulatory compliance.
Does this service include the travel crate or cargo shipping?+
This service focuses on documentation for PETC and AVIH travelers. While crates are not included by default, IATA-compliant travel crates can be consulted on and purchased separately upon request to ensure your pet has a safe and approved environment for the journey. View IATA crate standards and sizing guides.
What happens if destination regulations change after we start?+
Global import rules change frequently. We actively monitor regulatory updates from major authorities like the CDC, APHIS, MOCCAE, and MAFF. If a country updates its laws while your pet is in process, our team immediately adjusts your documentation timeline to ensure you remain fully compliant. See what major pet travel rules changed in 2026.
