Pet Shipping from Vietnam to India 2026 Complete Guide

India runs two separate import tracks, not one — most relocating owners only need a single government permit and face no quarantine at all. Confirming which track applies to you comes before every other step.

Key Facts Before Shipping a Pet to India

Which track you qualify for changes almost every number below — confirm it first.

01

No Quarantine

If documents are complete and the pet passes inspection

02

NOC in 2 Days

AQCS processes complete applications in as little as 2 working days

03

Pet Travel Purpose

Two different paths for pet travel: Commercial vs. Non-Commercial

04

No Titer Test

FAVN/RNATT not required — a valid rabies vaccination is sufficient

What Your Pet Needs to Enter India

Four requirements apply to every dog and cat — plus one decision that changes everything else.

NOC from AQCS

Every pet needs a No Objection Certificate from the Animal Quarantine and Certification Service at the entry airport. Submit at least 7 days before departure — processing takes a minimum of 2 working days

Microchip & Health Certificate

A microchip must be implanted before vaccination records are created. The health certificate must come from a Vietnamese veterinarian, be DAH-endorsed, and be completed within 10 days of the flight

Rabies & Core Vaccines

Rabies vaccine 30 days–12 months before travel (two doses if entering via Delhi). Core vaccines and leptospirosis are required for dogs, not optional. No FAVN/RNATT titer test needed — a real advantage over Japan or Australia.

Confirm Your Track First

Relocating after 2+ years abroad or moving on a work/study visa qualifies for the fast, NOC-only track. Tourists and other short stays — even with a sponsor in India — and anyone else are routed into DGFT’s commercial process, with customs duty and possible quarantine

How Entry Into India Actually Works

Two mechanics that catch owners who assume India’s process is a single checklist like most other destinations.

Two Tracks, Not One Permit

Every pet import falls into one of two tracks — non-commercial (relocating owners, work/study visas) or commercial/DGFT (including tourist and short-stay visits). Which one applies depends on your reason for travel, not on paperwork you happen to file first.

Quarantine Depends on Your Track

Unlike a fixed rule applied to every arriving pet, quarantine in India is decided at the arrival inspection. The non-commercial track skips it for healthy, compliant pets. On the commercial/DGFT track, AQCS can also order it where required.

Step by step

Preparation Timeline: The Fast Track

4–5 weeks if you qualify for the non-commercial track — add 6–9 weeks upfront if you need DGFT authorization instead.

01

Week 1: Confirm Track & Entry Airport

Confirm you qualify for the non-commercial track and choose your AQCS entry airport. Book airline for pet

02

Week 1: Veterinary Preparation Begins

Microchip implantation and a full veterinary check, before any vaccine record is created.

03

Week 2: Complete Vaccinations

Rabies vaccine (two doses if entering via Delhi), core vaccines, and leptospirosis for dogs — all required, none optional.

04

Week 3: Assemble & Submit the NOC

Gather documents and submit to AQCS at your entry airport — at least 7 days before departure.

05

Week 4: NOC Issued

A minimum of 2 working days once documents are complete. Check every line against your flight booking.

06

Week 4–5: Health Certificate & Departure

Issue the certificate within 10 days of the flight, then check in with all originals. AQCS inspection on arrival determines quarantine — not a fixed rule.

Welfare Standards That Apply

Applied to every pet flying the India route.

Age and Weight Requirements Vary by Carrier

Eight weeks and fully weaned is the floor for carriage, and some airlines set it higher. Pregnant animals are not accepted.

Sedation Is Not Used

IATA and IPATA both advise against sedation, and a pet known to be sedated can be refused at the counter. Crate conditioning on a six-week schedule does that work instead.

FAQs — Pet Shipping from Vietnam to India

Do I need an NOC to bring my pet to India?+
Yes — the NOC from AQCS is mandatory for every dog and cat entering India, on either import track. It must be applied for in advance, and the original must travel with the pet.
Do I need a DGFT license too?+
Only if you do not qualify for the non-commercial track — relocating after 2+ years abroad, or a valid work/study visa. Tourists and other short stays need DGFT authorization even with a sponsor in India — it comes first, putting you on India’s commercial import track.
Is quarantine mandatory when arriving in India?+
Not on the non-commercial track if documents are complete and the pet passes inspection; a pet that fails stays 15 days at the AQCS station. Commercial/DGFT: the same inspection applies, and AQCS can order quarantine where required.
Is the Rabies Titer Test (FAVN) required for India?+
No. India does not require the FAVN or RNATT titer test. A valid rabies vaccination administered at least 30 days before travel is sufficient.
How many pets can I bring, and through which airports?+
Up to 2 pets on the non-commercial track. Entry is possible through seven AQCS airports: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, plus Kolkata and Kochi (import only).
