Pet Shipping from Vietnam to China: Your 2026 Complete Guide

Vietnam is a non-designated country under GACC — a missing titer result means a 30-day quarantine, and a missing or defective certificate means the pet is sent back. Success requires at least 2 rabies vaccinations, a titer test from a GACC-approved lab, and an error-free health certificate.

Key Facts Before Shipping a Pet to China

Before you start, understand these 4 points of pet importation into China to avoid costly mistakes.

01

Quarantine

Can be avoided

02

Microchip

15-digit ISO-compliant

03

Rabies Titer Test

Required ≥ 0.5 IU/mL

04

Preparation Timeline

3 to 4 months

China Pet Import Regulations (GACC Compliance)

China has the strictest tolerance for errors. To avoid a 30-day quarantine—or potential refusal of entry—the following critical conditions must be meticulously met:

01

2 Lifetime Rabies Vaccines Required

Unlike most countries, China requires proof of at least two distinct lifetime rabies vaccinations: the titer blood sample cannot be drawn before the second dose. Daisy Pet spaces the two doses at least 30 days apart, and the latest dose must still be valid on arrival.

02

Rabies Titer Test (RNATT) Strict Window

Blood must be drawn on or after the date of the second vaccine. The passing result is valid for 12 months (it stays valid if the pet gets a rabies booster while its vaccine is still valid), and it MUST be performed by a laboratory on GACC’s approved list.

03

One Pet Per Person Limit

China heavily restricts pet numbers: you are only allowed to bring ONE (1) dog or cat per traveler per entry. Families with multiple pets must coordinate separate passengers for each animal.

04

Ports of Entry

A fully compliant pet can enter China through any port. A pet that needs quarantine may only enter at one of 10 ports with a GACC isolation facility (including PEK, SHA, PVG and CAN); anywhere else it is returned or destroyed. Carrying a printed photo of your pet makes the visual check easier.

Step by step

THE 5-STEP PREPARATION TIMELINE

China leaves no room for error. Here is our exact roadmap to ensure your pet skips the 30-day quarantine.

01

Microchip & Vaccine #1

We implant the 15-digit ISO microchip FIRST, immediately followed by Rabies Vaccine #1 to begin the mandatory sequence.

02

Vaccine #2 & RNATT Serum Export

At least 30 days later, we administer Vaccine #2 and draw blood on the same day. The sample is shipped to a specific GACC-approved international lab.

03

Flight Booking

We select and book the flight, usually into Shanghai, Beijing or Guangzhou. A fully compliant pet can land at any port of entry. See which airlines fly pets on this route →

04

Health Certificate & Documents

Within 14 days before arrival in China, we finalize the DAH Health Certificate with the chip, both vaccines and the titer result, and prepare a printed photo and passport copies.

05

Arrival & Customs Clearance

Your pet arrives. When the 2 vaccines, titer test and health certificate are all in order, customs clears the pet to go home without the 30-day facility stay. See exactly what happens at the CIQ inspection counter →

Three Shipping Methods for a Short Route

China is a short flight from Vietnam, so in-cabin travel is available to more pets than on longer routes.

Poodle in a soft-sided travel bag at the airport

In-Cabin (PETC)

Travels in the cabin with the owner, in a soft-sided carrier under the seat.

Pet owner checking in a dog crate at the airline counter

Checked Baggage (AVIH)

Flies on the same flight as the owner, in the temperature-controlled hold.

Pet crate on a pallet in the airport cargo warehouse

Manifest Cargo

Does not fly with the owner, with fewer limits on weight and size.

Welfare Standards That Apply

Applied to every pet flying the China route.

Age and Cabin Limits Vary by Carrier

Eight weeks and fully weaned is the floor for carriage, and some airlines set it higher. Cabin allowances count pet and crate together. Pregnant animals are not accepted.

Sedation Is Not Used

IATA and IPATA both advise against sedation, and a pet known to be sedated can be refused at the counter. Crate conditioning on a six-week schedule does that work instead.

FAQs About Pet Shipping from Vietnam to China

Will my pet be quarantined in China?+
Quarantine can be completely avoided IF you meet all GACC requirements (Microchip, 2 Rabies Vaccines, Passing Titer Test from an approved lab, and correct Health Certificate). A pet that meets every condition can enter through any port of entry.
My dog already had many rabies shots in Vietnam. Do I still need 2 more?+
If your pet’s vaccination record shows at least 2 distinct lifetime rabies vaccinations (e.g., puppy shot + booster), and the most recent is currently valid, the requirement is likely met. We will verify the batch numbers and dates to be sure.
Can I bring 2 dogs with me?+
No. China strictly enforces a limit of ONE (1) dog or cat per traveler per entry. If you have two dogs, you must have two separate travelers to accompany them.
Can I fly into any airport in China?+
Yes, if your pet meets every quarantine-free condition: GACC allows it to enter through any port. A pet that needs quarantine may only enter at one of 10 ports with an isolation facility, such as PEK in Beijing, SHA or PVG in Shanghai, and CAN in Guangzhou. Arriving elsewhere means it is returned or destroyed.
Do I need a printed photo of my pet?+
GACC rules do not list a photo, but carrying a printed colour photo of your pet makes the visual check at the inspection counter easier.
